Maggie, Mary And Lucy
Originally created for Marshall's debut institutional solo exhibition; 'Cursebreakers' at the De La Warr Pavilion in collaboration with Flatland Projects in 2021, this is the final installment of a large linocut triptych.

Handprinted Linocut, Ink on Japanese Paper, 289 x 193 cm
The triptych has journeyed through partnership, community and the final piece is around the self and the spiritual path.'Maggie, Mary And Lucy' is the culmination of a journey, ending in a cathartic rebirth. We see a reimagining of three saints - Saint Margaret, Saint Lucia and Saint Mary of Egypt. St Lucia is mixed with elements of the high priestess tarot card, as vision and intuition combine. St Maggie bursts through a lifeless body, released from the belly of the beast. In Catholicism the Devil appeared to St Margaret in the form of a dragon. She fought the dragon who still managed to swallow her whole. She escaped by wearing a silver cross necklace and the dragon’s belly ripped apart, releasing her. In 'Maggie, Mary And Lucy' the figure is wearing a lotus necklace.
No Mud No Lotus - without mud, the beautiful lotus flower could not grow. This is an analogy to life—without suffering, there cannot be happiness.
